Vascular Imagery

Vascular Imagery is an ultrasound exam that uses doppler to check blood flow through the arteries of the neck, arms, legs and kidneys or the veins of the arms or legs.

Preparation
Do not eat or drink anything 12 hours before the test unless you are otherwise instructed. If you are diabetic, please let our schedulers know.

The Procedure
The procedure may take from 60 to 90 minutes. Gel will be applied to the area being studied. The gel may feel cold at first. An ultrasound transducer will be placed on the gelled area and you will feel pressure from the transducer. An image of your arteries or veins will be displayed on a monitor and the blood flowing through the artery or vein can be heard. For arterial studies, blood pressure cuffs may be placed on your arms and legs. The cuffs will be inflated individually and the blood pressure measured. The blood pressure cuff will be inflated enough to stop circulation to the arm or leg, making this portion of the test uncomfortable. If you have questions, please ask your physician or the cardiovascular technician who will be with you throughout the procedure.

Following the Procedure
You may dress and resume your normal activities and diet unless otherwise notified. The information from your test will be interpreted by a specialist and a report will be given to your physician.
